UALR confirms identity of driver who died on Rahling Rd., differs from initial reports

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KTHV) -- University of Arkansas-Little Rock Communications Director, Judy Williams, confirmed the identity of the Little Rock man who died Tuesday, after driving into a pond in west Little Rock.

UALR said that Eddy Alvarez passed away form injuries sustained in an automobile crash.

Initial reports incorrectly stated the driver's name as Miguel Alvarez.  The Associated Press, who reported the name, cited a Arkansas State Police report that has since been removed from their website.

Neither Arkansas State Police nor the Little Rock Police Department will confirm the identity of the driver.  Both entities claim they never released the Miguel's name to the press.

UALR will host a memorial for Eddy, who was a freshman at the university.  The memorial for Eddy will be at 6 p.m. Friday in DSC Room D.

GoFundMe account has been created to help fund the funeral expenses.
