USS Little Rock official commissioning watch party to be held

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (December 8, 2017) -- The USS Little Rock Namesake Committee is hosting a “Live-Stream” Watch Party for the Official Commissioning of the USS Little Rock Littoral Combat Ship (LCS 9) to be held at the Ron Robinson Theater, 100 River Market Avenue, in downtown Little Rock at 10 a.m., Saturday, December 16.

Doors will open at 9 a.m. and all media representatives as well as the public are encouraged to attend this historic event. Refreshments will be served and seating is limited to the first 300 attendees.

Scheduled attendees at this event will include Lt. Governor Tim Griffin, as well as other state and local officials. Approximately 30 Arkansans, including Little Rock Mayor Mark Stodola and North Little Rock Mayor Joe Smith will be representing Arkansas at the Buffalo event, which has already closed ticketing after receiving far more than the anticipated 5,000 registrations.

Former Arkansas Secretary of State and Little Rock Mayor Sharon Priest will preside over the event, and members of the U.S. Navy and the USS Little Rock Namesake Committee will also be on hand. To help mark the event, special commemorative mementos will be available to attendees.

The event, being held in Buffalo, New York, is historic for LCS 9, her crew, the Navy and all of Buffalo and Western New York as this will be the first time in the 242-year US Navy history, that a new ship is commissioned alongside her namesake. The original USS Little Rock, was in service from August 27, 1944 until her decommissioning in November 1976. It is the only remaining Cleveland class ship, and is currently on permanent display at the Buffalo and Erie County Naval and Military Park at Canalside.
