West Memphis police seeking man wanted for battery of toddler

WEST MEMPHIS, Ark. (KTHV) -- The West Memphis Police Department is asking for the public’s help in locating a man wanted for battery of a child under the age of four.

Fredrick Henderson is wanted for first degree battery of a child under the age of four.

The incident reportedly occurred while a three-month-old infant was in the care of Henderson and the child’s father, Malik Williams on March 18. Police were called to Williams’ residence by West Memphis Fire Department paramedics when they responded to a child with suspicious injuries.

Upon arrival, officers spoke with Williams and Henderson and noticed that the story they told about what happened to the child did not seem to match the injuries the child displayed.

Detectives were called to investigate and took statements from both subjects. After receiving medical information from the hospital, detectives were able to confirm that the extensive internal head injuries to the child were not consistent with minor trauma.

After receiving this information, warrants were obtained on both Williams and Henderson.

At this time the child is on life support at a Memphis hospital and is unable to breath on his own. It is unknown at this time if the child will recover from this incident.

Malik Williams has been arrested and charged with first degree battery of a child under four years old and will be arraigned in the West Memphis District Court Friday morning. Both Henderson and Williams are 17-years-old but are being charged as adults in this case.

If you have any information about Henderson’s whereabouts, you are asked to contact police.
