WHITE HALL, Ark. (KTHV) -- Clown sightings, a problem that started in the Carolinas, are now occurring across several southern states, including Arkansas.
The White Hall police department has received two calls in the last three days in reference to a subject dressed in a clown suit either wielding a machete or an ax.
Sightings of a clown have been seen all over town, and the most alarming location is near the woods behind Gandy Elementary.
The school went into lockdown Monday afternoon for 30 minutes after reports came in of a clown with an ax in the woods behind the school. Whether the report was real or fake, the school took the danger seriously.
Ryan Dunderdale was on her way home when she spotted a person dressed in a red jumpsuit and an orange wig.
"He started running and when he got to this edge line, he doubled back and ran into the woods. He was carrying a machete or an ax," said Dunderdale. “I called my mom crying, and I asked her what to do. She said to call the cops right then.”
Police said so far there is no serious threats to worry about yet.
“No reports about the subject going towards anybody, threatening anybody, or even speaking to anybody. It has been sightings only,” said a WHPD official.
However they are warning people this is a serious matter.
"If you call in a false report, there is a charge." WHPD warns that all false claims will be pursued.
