Winners & Losers: Mar. 24, 2014

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KTHV) - Welcome to another session of our regular Monday feature that captures the week that was in the form of winners and losers. After a weekend of March Madness, we don't have to go far.

Loser: Kansas. Kansas teams got bounced early from the tournament. Kentucky got rid of both Kansas State and Witchita State, while Stanford beat Kansas. There were only tears for a state that had high hopes.

No sunflowers in the tournament, but we do have plenty of daffodils. Winner: Wye Mountain, resplendent this weekend in Daffodil yellow, adding much needed color after a drab winter.

Down in Grant County, we find our next winner because of their turkey calls. Winners: the Clarks. Husband and wife whose turkey call business is building a natiowide reputation.

Lets head to Gurdon. The Chamber of Commerce banquet. Winner: Mary Lewis, who was named the citizen of the year, for her volunteer work with the animal shelter. She is what we call, a Miracle Engineer.

Winner: Jerry Kahler. He found out he was the benficiary of a nice little sum of money from the State Auditor's office. There are millions of dollars in unclaimed insurance money. All it takes is a little diligence like Jerry, a quick review of the website, and boom, you could be a winner.

But if you want diligence, how about the people that for 30 years worked to make the Fallen Firefighters Memorial a reality. A huge

crowd turned out Saturday for the dedication, made possible by bake sales, car washes, raffles, whatever it took to honor the first

responders who gave the ultimate sacrifice. Winners: firefighters.
