Woman arrested for negligent homicide, DWI after killing pedestrian

PINE BLUFF, Ark. (KTHV) – A woman was arrested on Wednesday after hitting a pedestrian with her car while she was intoxicated.

Around 3:40 a.m., 45-year-old Dewayne Jackson was walking west near the Martha Mitchell Expressway between University Avenue and Willow Street when he was struck by a vehicle that was traveling west in the same lane. Within moments, he was struck by another vehicle. He was pronounced dead at the scene by the Jefferson County Coroner.

22-year-old Nia Blade was arrested for DWI, driving on a suspended driver’s license and no proof of insurance. She was also arrested on probable cause of negligent homicide. 

A case file is being prepared and will be forwarded to the Jefferson County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office once it is complete. 

Blade was booked into the Jefferson County Jail on Wednesday morning. She is being held on a $1,390 bond.

No charges are expected against the driver of the second vehicle.
