Woman killed after stolen truck drives into church during police chase

ST. FRANCIS COUNTY, Ark. (KTHV) – According to Arkansas State Police, a woman who was riding in a stolen SUV being chased by police was found dead after the vehicle crashed into a church on Tuesday.

The ASP Highway Patrol Division initiated a pursuit on a stolen vehicle out of Dalhart, Texas around 8:40 a.m. near mile marker 249 on I-40 East.

At the 247 mile marker (Widener) exit, the suspect vehicle exited the interstate and began traveling north on a St. Francis County Road.

The driver of the vehicle, later identified as 23-year-old Jacob Bowman of Kingsport, Tennessee, traveled through a gravel parking lot and struck the Riverside Baptist Church. The vehicle then traveled in to the church. No injuries were reported inside the building.

Bowman was taken into custody at the scene and treated for minor injuries before being taken to the St. Francis County Detention Center.

He is being held on charges of first degree murder, felony fleeing and theft by receiving.

The deceased passenger was identified as 22-year-old Louis Meade, also of Kingsport, Tennessee.

The investigation is still ongoing.
