NLR ex-mayor, state rep file for 2nd District seat

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) - Former North Little Rock Mayor Pat Hays and state Rep. Ann Clemmer have officially entered the race for Arkansas' 2nd Congressional District.

Hays, a Democrat, and Clemmer, a Republican, formally filed paperwork to enter the race Monday, the first day of the weeklong filing period for the 2014 elections. The seat is being vacated by GOP U.S. Rep. Tim Griffin.

Clemmer says her decision last week to vote against the funding bill for Arkansas' Medicaid expansion was not related to her congressional bid. Clemmer had backed the funding bill for the private option last year but said she had concerns about the program before launching her congressional campaign.

Griffin announced in October that he wouldn't run for re-election and is now seeking the Republican nomination for lieutenant governor.
