A Place to Call Home: Jai, Ruby, & Lakesha

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KTHV) -- State foster care is a tough place to grow up. But that's what's happening to two sisters and their niece. They desperately need a home.

They are up for adoption and through our partnership with the Arkansas Department of Human Services, we saw a glimpse into their colorful, fun personalities.

The bright powders, shadows and brushes were ready. Jai, 15, and her family were treated to makeovers at the Dillard's MAC makeup counter. There's Jai's 16-year-old sister Ruby and their niece 11-year-old Lakeisha.

Jai loves to sing. Ruby's passion is poetry. Lakeisha loves sports. They all love getting their makeup done.

"They are wonderful, their smiles, their personalities," the girls' adoption specialist Monica Spencer shared. "They all have different personalities, and that's why we're looking for a separate home for each one of them."

Spencer said they need to be adopted separately. The reason they were brought together this day was to show the bond the girls share. All they have left is each other and DHS hopes that whoever adopts them allows them to maintain contact.

Despite being in care nearly five years, Ruby is realistic about what she wants.

"Not necessarily a perfect family because there's not a perfect family," Ruby said, "but one that will make me feel special, I guess."

That's what Jai and Lakeisha want too. They were all happy for this day just to be together, dreaming of future goals and plans.

"I want to own my own nail salon," said Jai.

"Spending time with my family," Lakeisha shared.

Three girls with a tie that's unbreakable, pampered for a day, all the while, hoping and dreaming of a place to call home.

Special thanks to Dillard's and the girls at the MAC counter for spoiling the foster children the afternoon we were there. The girls walked away with goody bags that MAC donated.
