SEARCY, Ark. (AP) - An Arkansas judge has denied a motion to rule in favor of a woman who cashed a $1 million lottery ticket she allegedly found in a bin of discarded tickets in a Beebe convenience store.
Lawyers for Sharon Jones argued during a hearing in Searcy Tuesday that there was no way to prove who bought the winning ticket. They also say convenience store manager Lisa Petriches had no legitimate claim to the ticket, even though she made it to practice to collect losing tickets that she'd use to claim secondary prizes.
Petriches and alleged ticket buyer Sharon Duncan sued Jones, claiming ownership of the ticket.
Duncan had previously testified that the ticket she bought on July 15 came up as a non-winner when scanned in an electronic ticket reader.
