LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) - A former Arkansas law enforcement officer who pleaded guilty to extortion and money laundering has been sentenced to 16 months in prison.
Hermon Eaton appeared in federal court in Little Rock Wednesday as a judge accepted the prison sentence his attorney and prosecutors recommended.
Eaton is one of five law enforcement officers indicted in an investigation dubbed "Operation Delta Blues." Sixty-six others were also charged in the case that focused on corruption and drug trafficking in the Mississippi Delta town of Helena-West Helena.
Prosecutors said Eaton and the other law enforcement officers took bribes and looked the other way while drug traffickers shipped marijuana, cocaine and other illegal drugs throughout the region.
Eaton's attorney, Blake Hendrix, says Eaton asked the judge to recommend that he serve his time in Tennessee.
