CAMDEN, Ark. (KTHV) - In District 4, longtime state legislator Gene Jeffress beat Hot Springs lawyer Q. Byrum Hurst with sixty-one percent of the vote.

"We're excited, it's been a great night," says Jeffress. "Let me add, Mr. Hurst as well, he's been a gentleman and I do appreciate the race that he's run and his supporters, I appreciate them as well."

Jeffress will now face Dardanelle Republican Tom Cotton in November.

He says while he knows Cotton has an advantage on him with monetary donations - he knows what voters want.

"This election is not about buying it were gonna see people because that's who's gonna vote for us."

Jefress says his campaign has only spent about $38,000 while Cotton has more than a million. 

Mr. Hurst released a statement following the election results.

Now more than ever, it is clear that this district deserves a Democrat committed to building on the track record of Mike Ross, and I am committed to working with State Senator Gene Jeffress to ensure we can Arkansas forward."
