NORTH LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) - The Arkansas Sports Hall of Fame in North Little Rock is getting a conference center.
Organizers said Thursday that a pledge of $300,000 from Southland Park Gaming and Racing in West Memphis made the addition possible.
The hall of fame is located within Verizon Arena. A spokesman says the pledge from Southland will enable construction to begin on the conference center. The hall had earlier secured $1 million from the federal Commerce Department to go toward the facility.
The conference center will be in unused space under the stands in Verizon Arena in an area originally planned as a practice basketball court.
The center is designed to accommodate up to 750 people.
The Arkansas Sports Hall of Fame museum opened in 2007.
