PINE BLUFF, Ark. (KTHV) - Officials in Pine Bluff are preparing for Tropical Storm Isaac as it slowly makes its way into Arkansas.

"Starting at 8 o'clock it's varied.  I've seen six inches, reports of seven inches.  We really don't know.  We're just speculating," said Major Lafayette Woods with Jefferson County Sheriff's Department.

Officials are packing sandbags in the hopes of not having to use them, but they'll be ready if needed. They will keep an eye out on the low-lying areas of Pine Bluff for flooding.

"We can deploy boats to a specific area, flat bottom boats, to get those individuals evacuated from that area and place them in a place if they've been displaced from their homes.  Basically it's just a call away," said Major Woods.

The American Red Cross said they will place shelters in the Pine Bluff area if needed.

"In the inner city I can't think of any situation in the past that has caused us to have to deploy those boats," said Major Woods.
