RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. (AP) - An attorney for three men charged with battery in an alleged hazing incident involving members of an Arkansas Tech University fraternity say the injured student hurt himself at football practice.
The Courier reports (http://is.gd/KAAYeE) that attorney Marion Humphrey is asking Arkansas State Police to review its investigation. The men are accused of paddling the student so badly that his kidneys stopped functioning and he required several weeks of hospitalization.
The university banned the Pi-Upsilon Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi fraternity from its campus because of the incident.
Humphrey says the injured student was hit hard during a football scrimmage on April 18 and did not return to practice.
But a university spokesman says video footage from that day's practice show the student was not injured during the practice.
