LITTLE ROCK - A free event at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) will offer insight into the latest advances in preventing, diagnosing and treating lung cancer.

It is set for 7:30 a.m.-5 p.m. Oct. 5 at the UAMS Stephens Spine & Neurosciences Institute. Participants are welcome to attend any session, but topics specifically for a non-medical audience begin at 10:50 a.m.

Sessions include topics such as lung cancer screening, smoking cessation and robotic surgery. Afternoon breakout sessions will cover patient navigation through the medical care system, targeted tobacco sales and public policy.

Speakers include UAMS physicians specializing in lung cancer and other lung diseases, as well as representatives from the Arkansas Cancer Coalition, American Lung Association, Johns Hopkins, the University of Pennsylvania and other institutions.
