ROCK HILL, S.C. (AP) - A Rock Hill man has been arrested after authorities say he scammed people for money by claiming his son had cancer.

The Herald of Rock Hill reports Sunday (http://bit.ly/T9WY8P) that 28-year-old William Lorenzo Moffitt was arrested last week on charges including obtaining goods by false pretenses.

Officers got complaints about a man soliciting money for a sick child. Police say they found Moffitt carrying an address book, a folder with his son's picture and medical information.

Moffitt told police he was going door to door to raise money because his son needed an operation to remove a brain tumor. But his family later told officers that Moffitt's son is healthy and doesn't have a tumor.

Moffitt was released from jail Thursday. It wasn't known if he had an attorney.
