MAGNOLIA, Ark. (AP) - Southern Arkansas' Janson Carr and other baseball players had successful summer league seasons.
Carr was named the Valley Baseball League pitcher of the year and was selected to the all-star team. He guided the Winchester Royals to the league championship, where they finished as runner-up. He was 6-2 on the season with a 3.00 ERA and 69 strikeouts in 60 innings, while walking only eight batters.
Teammate James Baune also was a member of the Royals' staff, compiling a 6-1 record and 3.18 ERA, while fanning 43 in 45 1-3 innings.
Carr and Baune will both be juniors at Southern Arkansas this year.
Philip Menou played for the Ohio Valley League champion Hoptown Hoppers. Menou went 6-1 with a 1.46 ERA and struck out 63 in 55 1-3 innings.
