LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) - A judge who got into a fight with his wife's boyfriend at a Walmart in Crossett will serve a 30-day unpaid suspension as a result of his conduct.
The Arkansas Judicial Discipline and Disability Commission announced the suspension on Friday against Circuit Judge Sam Pope, who presides in five counties in the state's southeast corner.
Pope wrote a letter of apology, in which he said he's receiving counseling to help him through a divorce from his wife of 33 years.
The April 5th fight resulted in no charges, though Pope and the other man were taken away in handcuffs by police.
The commission cited Pope for failing to promote confidence in the judiciary and not complying with the law.
The penalty is to be imposed by the Arkansas Supreme Court.
