LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KTHV) - Have you received a phone call telling you that you've won the Jamaican lottery and all you have to do is pay the fees to release your funds or prize?
The Arkansas Attorney General's office is warning consumers that this is a scam and not to fall for it.
"Within in the last two weeks we've been getting reports from Arkansas consumers and local law enforcement agencies that folks are getting call from a 876 area code number and they are being told they have won a car and if they will wire money, processing fees for their winnings, someone is in the area and will deliver a car to them," says Assistant Attorney General Sarah Tacker.
Tacker says if it seems to good to be true, it probably is.
"Question the validity of the claim of the other person on the end of the phone," says Tacker. "And be extremely careful when you're wiring money. It's like giving someone cash and you won't be able to get it back."
If you receive a call from someone trying this scam on you, please call the Consumer Hotline at 800-482-8982 or visit the GotYourBackArkansas.org website to file a consumer complaint.
