FORT SMITH, Ark. (AP) - The planned U.S. Marshals Museum in Fort Smith will display an artifact from the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks.

The museum unveiled on Tuesday a 92-pound twisted piece of steel from the World Trade Center towers. The museum's Jessica Hayes says the artifact is a piece of the support that held the floor of an elevator.

The Southwest Times Record reports (http://is.gd/CyImih) that the artifact will be displayed in the $50 million museum to be built on the riverfront in Fort Smith.

The museum says the artifact will commemorate both the Sept. 11 attacks and the response roles the Marshals Service played in the aftermath.

The museum has not yet announced a planned opening date. Supporters are still raising money for the facility.
