FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (AP) - Prosecutors say a northwestern Arkansas man accused of sending white powder to a school and businesses has been convicted of 56 of 57 counts of mailing a threatening substance.

U.S. Attorney Conner Eldridge says a federal jury in Fayetteville found Philip Hanson guilty Thursday.

The 57-year-old Siloam Springs man represented himself at trial and did not testify or call any witnesses.

Prosecutors say Hanson mailed white powder last October and November to various places including a school, a post office and a card company where he used to work.

Hanson faces five years in prison on each count for a total of up to 280 years. He will be sentenced in six to eight weeks.

Eldridge said he cannot comment on what sentence prosecutors will recommend at sentencing.
