FORT SMITH, Ark. (AP) - Mercy Fort Smith has begun construction on a $42 million hospital.

The 24-bed orthopedic hospital is party of Mercy's plan to spend nearly $200 million on capital improvements over the coming six years. Work began at the Mercy River Valley campus on Tuesday and construction should be complete in two years.

Arkansas Business reports the new hospital will specialize in joint replacement surgery. It will have between 100 and 125 workers.
