John Snavely to serve 7 years in prison for aggravated assault and kidnapping.
MURFREESBORO, Ark. (AP) - An Arkansas man accused of kidnapping his wife and chaining her to a tree has been sentenced to seven years in prison.
The Texarkana Gazette reports that John Snavely pleaded no contest in Pike County to aggravated assault and kidnapping. Prosecutors allege that Snavely put a knife to his wife's throat and forced her to sign blank checks.
Authorities claim that John Snavely then chained his wife to a tree, put a sock in her mouth and covered it with duct tape and placed a burlap bag over her head. Authorities say Snavely freed the woman the next morning.
Circuit Judge Charles Yeargan sentenced John Snavely to six years in prison for aggravated assault and seven years for kidnapping, but said the sentences could run concurrently.
