LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) - The Arkansas Supreme Court says a Texas businessman will not get more time to gather signatures to place his casino legalization measure on the November ballot.

Justices on Thursday denied a petition from Michael Wasserman, who wanted more time to gather signatures to qualify for the ballot. The proposed constitutional amendment would give Wasserman the exclusive right to operate casinos in seven Arkansas counties.

Election officials said that Wasserman did not turn in enough signatures, and he argued that he should have been given more time to circulate petitions.

Justices are considering whether to allow a competing casino measure on the ballot.
