FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (AP) - John L. Smith has done his best to remain positive as Arkansas has struggled during a recent two-game losing streak, flashing his usual smile and cracking jokes whenever possible.
The Razorbacks coach's message of a steady hand has led to backlash from fans, particularly following last week's 52-0 loss to No. 1 Alabama.
There was a noticeable drop in support during Smith's weekly radio show Wednesday night, where the usual sold-out crowd of 186 fans totaled only 110 following the loss to the Crimson Tide - and a shocking loss to Louisiana-Monroe a week earlier.
Smith says he will continue to be positive to better serve as an example to the Razorbacks (1-2), who host Rutgers (3-0) on Saturday.
