ENGLAND, Ark. (KTHV) - The Lonoke County city of England has a new police chief in place after the recent firing of its former one.

A receptionist at Mayor Danny Maynard's office told KTHV that a man named Nathan Cook is the new police chief and he started on Friday. No other details about the new hire has been released.

Cook fills the void left from the firing of Herman Hutton, who served as police chief for five years. His firing took effect Thursday, the day before Cook started.

In a letter issued to the media, Hutton said he would appeal the termination and mentioned a conversation he had with Mayor Maynard about Hutton not separating his Christian beliefs from the job he was hired to do.

Maynard's office said the firing had to do with a "personnel" issue, but declined to discuss the reasoning in detail.
