BENTON, Ark. (KTHV) - A Smart911 sign-up class is set for Tuesday, Sept. 25 at the Saline County Library.
Here's more from Benton police:
Despite the hard work and effort of our 9-1-1 personnel, the news headlines are ?lled with occasions where a system or person failed during a 9-1-1 call with tragic results. Or maybe there was no failure and an incident was misunderstood and falsely sensationalized.
The fact is that rarely do citizens get to interact with 9-1-1 in a positive environment. When they do call in an emergency, their communication is hurried, erratic and error prone. Smart911 provides citizens with a way to enter information online that they want to make automatically available to ?rst responders in the event they call 9-1-1.
Smart911 lets families enter information online that is later displayed to the 9-1-1 operator if they call. The service enables citizens to be proactive, providing critical data before an emergency so that 9-1-1 operators have it during one. The information is only shared with local Police, Fire and EMS and only when the individual dials 9-1-1.
It's entirely up to each citizen to decide how much information they want to share about themselves and their families. They can upload everything from photos to physical descriptions. They can describe the layout of their house, the make of their car and the composition of their families - even pets. Every family is different, and may choose to utilize the service differently. Smart911 understands this and gives citizens the ?exibility and personalization they want.
Citizen's pro?le information is private and secure. Smart911 is designed with the redundancy and reliability necessary for emergency operations. The hosted components of the service reside in redundant, secure, and geographically dispersed data centers across the United States. Data security is also of critical importance. Smart911 utilizes the latest in data security measures to protect resident information.
For those that have access to a computer you may go to www.smart911.com and create a safety profile for you and your family. For our citizens who don't have access to one or don't feel comfortable using one they may come to a free class on the Smart911 system.
The class will be held at the Saline County Library on Tuesday, September 25th from 1PM to 4PM. During this class we will explain some of the basics about the system and also help citizen's setup safety profiles. The class and setup are completely free of charge and no pre-registration is required.
