LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KTHV) - Children who have dealt with severe illnesses will get a distraction from their hardships on Sunday.

Arkansas' first lady, Ginger Beebe, will spend the afternoon with young cancer survivors and their families. Beebe is taking part in an event at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences Center (UAMS) from 1:30 until 3:30 as part of Childhood Cancer Awareness Month. She will visit with the children and make a special keepsake with them.

UAMS is hosting the event, in part, because it opened the UAMS Radiation Oncology Center earlier this year. This made it the sole provider of radiation therapy for patients on its campus, including those patients at its affiliate, Arkansas Children's Hospital.
