EL DORADO, Ark. (AP) - A Smackover man has pleaded guilty to abuse of a corpse after he admitted helping conceal the dead body of his then-girlfriend's mother.
The El Dorado News-Times reports that Telly Denton will be sentenced Nov. 8 for the felony. Attorneys said Thursday that Denton's plea agreement is contingent upon him testifying against his former girlfriend, Donna Jett.
Prosecutors charged Jett with second-degree murder in the April 2011 death of Mary Cross of Norphlet. Cross' body was found in a car submerged in Norphlet Creek.
Denton testified Thursday that he saw Cross' dead body in the trunk of the car but did not tell anyone.
Jett has pleaded not guilty and refused a plea deal this week that called for a 10-year prison sentence.
