LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (Oct. 9, 2012) - The Arkansas Local Food Network is sponsoring the first annual Little Rock Local Food Tour on Sunday, October 14 from 12:30 to 5 p.m.

Participants will be walking, biking, and even hay riding around the South Main neighborhood, touring community gardens, restaurants, businesses, farms, and artisan producer stands.

The tour will begin at The Bernice Garden Farmer's Market and wind around the historic streets of Little Rock, with stops, samples, and demonstrations along the way.

The tour will be a blend between self-guided and all-as-one. Every participant will receive a schedule and map at the beginning of the tour, with a route and each site given a specific time for visits.

Feel free to bring your own bike, a nice pair of walking shoes, or some other form of human-power transport. There will be hay rides available for the longer treks.

Tickets are $25 a person, $10 for children 12 and under. Tickets can be purchased at The Green Corner Store, The Root Cafe, ALFN Food Club, Boulevard Bread Market & Bakery on Main and Bobby's Bike Hike Bike Rentals.

The Little Rock Local Food Tour will end with a celebratory dinner in the Bernice Garden, 5-7 p.m. Dress warmly! Expect delicious, locally sourced food catered by the Boulevard Bread Co. team, and local food stories and music provided by the Tales of the South. Tickets sold separately: $45 a person, or sold as a package with the tour, $65 a person. Tickets for the dinner also sold at the above locations.

The tour will help raise funds for the 1st edition of the Arkansas Local Food Network FRESH Local Food Directory, a list and map of Central Arkansas' community gardens, farms, restaurants, and businesses.

Things to bring:

  • A cold beverage and accompanying container
  • Walking shoes
  • Something warm to protect you from the cold
  • A bicycle
  • A camera

Along the tour will be a roving band of volunteers from Arkansas Local Food Network's board. Despite their crude appearance, they can be trusted when help is needed. There will be bathroom and water stops along the way.
