LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) - Blindness organizations in Arkansas are to mark White Cane Safety Day to draw attention to the need to be aware of blind pedestrians.
World Services for the Blind is holding an event at 10 a.m. Monday at its Little Rock headquarters.
Little Rock Mayor Mark Stodola is to be on hand and the event is also coordinated by the Arkansas Department of Human Services Division of Services for the Blind.
The groups note that the white cane is a symbol of independence for blind people and that it is also a signal to motorists that blind pedestrians have the right of way.
