FORT SMITH, Ark. (KTHV) - Dozens of airmen with the 188th Fighter Wing unit returned home on Wednesday.
The 45 airmen and 10 pilots landed their A-10s in Fort Smith after spending close to 3 months in Afghanistan.
The deployment was part of an Air Expeditionary Forces rotation.
Justin Lewis, one of the last pilots to land back on ground, couldn't wait to get out of the plane and see his family.
"You've got to concentrate on your job, but once you see them, it's hard, a little harder to concentrate on the job," Lewis said. "You see your family sitting out there and you just want to get to them as fast as you can."
Most of the 375 airmen who deployed to Afghanistan for this rotation arrived home last week.
The 10th Fighter Wing is not expected to deploy again for the next two years.
