FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. - After helping Arkansas' soccer team go 2-0 on the road last week and secure a spot in next week's Southeastern Conference Tournament, forward Ashleigh Ellenwood has been named SEC Freshman of the Week.
The Razorbacks knocked off No. 16 Missouri on Friday and Mississippi State on Sunday. Arkansas trailed 1-0 at the half in each game and rallied to win both by scores of 2-1.
"It was a good weekend," head coach Colby Hale says. "To beat a ranked opponent on the road for their first home loss is a nice step for the program. The Sunday game was important to get the three points (for a win in the SEC standings) on a day when we weren't in top form. Six road points on the weekend is something we talked about and I know the girls take great pride in that."
For the week, Ellenwood had six shots, three on goal, a .500 shots on goal percentage and scored both goals in the win at Missouri. The loss was Missouri's first at home in nine games.
The win over the Tigers is the second in program history over a ranked team. The first was earlier this year against No. 18 Kentucky.
Ellenwood scored off a cross from Jeriann Okoro at 58:25 to tie the game 1-1. At 85:19, she scored off an assist from Allie Chandler to give the Razorbacks the win.
The Michigan City, Ill., native is one of nine Razorbacks to score a goal this year. Ellenwood is tied with Chandler for the team lead with four.
She is the second player of the week honoree for the Razorbacks this year. Lindsey Mayo earned offensive honors following the 3-2 win over then-No. 18 Kentucky on Sept. 21.
The 2-0 road trip improved Arkansas' record to 9-8-1 overall and 6-5-1 in the SEC.
Arkansas closes its regular season on Thursday with a 7 p.m. game at LSU.
