SALINE COUNTY, Ark. (KTHV) - Today marks the 9th Annual Coat Closet in Saline County.
All day long, people in need have been stopping by Tyndall Park in Benton and picking out free winter clothes all donated by the community.
Officials say it started back in 2005 because of Hurricane Katrina. With so many evacuees coming to Saline County, the Coat Closet wanted to make sure they had clothes to keep them warm in the wintertime.
After their first coat drive, they realized that the evacuees weren't the only ones in need in Saline County. Therefore, they expanded to anyone in the county, and since then, they've been giving out hundreds of coats each year.
Officials with the Coat Closet say anyone who needs a coat for himself or family members is welcome to go by and make a selection.
