UNDATED (CNN) -- Walt Disney is adding Luke Skywalker and Darth Vader to its large cast of characters.

George Lucas sold Lucasfilm to Disney for an astounding $4.1 billion.
Lucas said he's loved watching Star Wars passed from generation to generation.

Now, he says, it's time to pass the company to a new generation of filmakers. He says, "It was a perfect match of two companies that are constructed similarly, do the same kind of product. I think it will give me a chance to go off and explore my own interests at the same time. I feel completely confident Disney will take care of the franchise I built. And at the same time, for me, I look at it as I'm investing in Disney cause that's my retirement fund. We've got a plan for seven, eight and nine which is the end of the trilogy and other films also. So, we have a large group of ideas, characters, books and all kinds of things. We could go on making Star Wars for the next one-hundred-years."

Disney hopes to have the next Star Wars film in theaters by 2015.
