LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KTHV) -- Disaster sometimes strikes in a moment's notice, and that's why state crews always have to be ready.
A group of emergency workers from central Arkansas met Thursday to sharpen their skills and familiarize themselves with some of this equipment.
"They asked us to bring some of our hazardous material and our search and rescue equipment out here so other counties can become familiar with what we have should they need it," explained Andy Traffanstedt.
Traffanstedt also said when disaster strikes, county lines disappear.
"When Conway County had the building collapse, they asked for help from Faulkner County and Pulaski County," he said.
Thursday's work focused on earthquake preparedness. Instructors spoke on how to be prepared to handle a large earthquake in Arkansas. They talked about having alternate plans incase bridges went out, and they went over how to use equipment.
These training exercises teach everyone how to respond to a disaster, even if it's not in their own county.
"Right now seismologists feel that we are overdue for a magnitude 6 on the New Madrid, the chances over the next 50 years for a magnitude 6 is anywhere from 25 to 40 percent," explained Geologist David Johnston.
