BRYANT, Ark. (KTHV) -- In Bryant, the city planning commission presented an ordinance to amend its zoning ordinance on multi-family dwellings.
Right now, there's a moratorium on apartments throughout the city except in the Midtown area, which is covered by their own ordinance.
Planning commissioner Fred Foster said they're trying to move forward with this new ordinance, which would allow the city to regulate how, where and when multi-family complexes go anywhere in the city except for Midtown.
"The developers have to stay within the ordinance," explained Foster. "And, if they don't get in the ordinance as was said tonight, then they'll have to come back to the planning commission and in turn will go back to the council.">
A lawsuit has been filed concerning the Midtown development. Residents from that neighborhood said not regulating apartments there will impact their property values.
The ordinance will go to the city council.
