They are a household staple but cotton balls can be used for more than taking off your makeup at the end of the day.

We love helping you find new uses for things you may already have around the house. We scoured the internet and made this list of 5 ways to use cotton balls from several different sources.

One: Scent the room. Soak a cotton ball with your favorite cologne and drop it into your vacuum cleaner bag. As you vacuum, the scent will be released and gently permeate the room.

Two: Deodorize your refrigerator. Dampen a cotton ball with vanilla extract and place it on a shelf. It acts as a deodorizer, offering its own pleasant scent.

Three: Fight mildew. To reach the tough spots in the bathroom, soak a few cotton balls in bleach and place them in those difficult spots. Leave them to work their magic for a few hours. And then finish by rinsing with warm water.

Four:  Protect your garden.  If your garden is suffering because rabbits keep eating your crops try this simple trick.  Put cotton balls soaked in white distilled vinegar in a 35-millimeter film container. Poke a hole in the top and place in the garden.

Five: Use cotton balls as glove protectors. Having long nails isn't always easy. Sometimes they tend to puncture holes in rubber gloves worn during cleaning tasks. One way to prolong the life of your rubber gloves is to shove cotton balls down into the tips of the fingers.  This will act as a soft barrier between your nails and the rubber.
