LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (July 20, 2012) - The 106th Southern Amateur Championship is taking place this weekend at the Chenal Country Club in Little Rock.
Officials say 168 top amateurs from the United States and several other countries will include 2010 Southern Am champion Alex Carpenter; Peyton Vitter and Ben Crancer, who won the last two Southern Junior titles and Alabama standout Bobby Wyatt.
The champion's name will be engraved on the George Adair Memorial Trophy in the Bob Jones Trophy Room of the Atlanta Athletic Club. The winner also will earn an exempt spot on the field of the PGA Tour's Arnold Palmer Invitational in Orlando, Fla., if the player retains amateur status.
Paul Simson, winner of more than 200 amateur titles, will be inducted into the SGA Hall of Fame.
