Child learns to brush teeth at Museum of Discovery
LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KTHV) - Keeping the kids entertained during the summer can be a full-time job which is why 'THV This Morning' is working to find fun summer activities for you and the family.
For 85 years the Museum of Discovery has been igniting a passion for science, technology and math in an interactive environment.
And if you haven't visited the museum since it reopened after a nine-month renovation, now is the time to get out and see what you've been missing. The Museum of Discovery is featuring two new exhibits:
1st Annual TinkerFest

Noon - 4 pm
- What is tinkering? It's free-form experimentation with use of screwdrivers, motors, wires, glue, and more. It has really made a comeback across the nation, with science centers as the catalyst. Tinkering is getting back to the basics of imagination, creation and invention. It allows us to slow down and immerse ourselves in a workshop environment.
- TinkerFest will highlight tools, techniques and ingenuity of local Makers, as they will have stations set up in- and outside of the museum. Visitors will be able to take a vehicle apart, make jewelry from junk, build a mannequin from recycled toys, make a piece of art with light, darkness and thin air - use a slow exposure camera to capture your glowing art.
Design Zone - New Traveling Exhibit
Opens August 11, Runs Through Dec. 2
- Learn what it's like to create a video game, line up rhythms like the best DJs, or design a roller coaster that produces the biggest thrills.
- In Design Zone, visitors can go behind the scenes and see how video game developers, music producers, roller coaster designers, and other creative problem solvers use math to do the amazing things they do.
- Design Zone explores mathematical concepts like patterns, variable, scale, slope and ratios used by artists, architects, engineers, musicians and other innovators.
- 1,500 square foot exhibition, including nine stations ranging from skate park and roller coaster design, to DJ light show and drum music track machine.
