LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KTHV) - According to the National Fire Protection Agency, U.S. fire departments responded to 370,000 home structure fires in 2011. In the same year, there was a civilian fire injury reported every 30 minutes and a civilian fire death reported every 175 minutes.

That's why each year Home Depot promotes Fire Safety Week (October 7-13) by holding events nationwide.

Today, October 6, families are invited to a Fire Prevention event from 9 a.m. to noon in the parking lot of the Home Depot in Cabot.

The Cabot Fire Department will set up their fire safety "smoke house" while the police department will be giving each child a fingerprint I.D. There will be special appearances by Smokey the Bear, McGruff the Crime Dog and "Homer" the Home Depot mascot.

THV's Ashley Blackstone sat down wtih Laura Stokes and Jarrel Valentine from Home Depot to find out the mission behind this event. Click on the THVideo!
