LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KTHV) -- For most kids the holidays are focused on material items, which can be stressful on parents mentally and financially.
Centers for Youth and Families has compiled a list of activities that families can do to give back to others, while teaching children the concept of giving back and spending time as a family.
Tips for Deciding What to Do:
Keep it Simple
Have Fun
Make it a Family Activity
Talk about it after you're finished
If your family can give their time:
Family Yard Work for Others
Offer to Babysit for a New Mommy or a Single Parent
Give Gift Certificates for Time & Activities Together
Other ideas are:
Donate no-longer-used toys and clothes
Read at Nursing Homes or Visit Elderly Neighbors
Go Caroling as a Family
Serve a Meal at a Soup Kitchen
Spend Time Relaxing as a Family
If your family can give a little money and lots of love:
Create "Essentials Bags" for Shelters and Residential Programs
Create a Family Giving Box
Shop for a Child or Family in need
Bake and Deliver to other families and friends
Invite someone all alone to your family dinner
