LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KTHV) - KTHV anchor Matt Turner, who died in a car accident in Oct. 2012, will be honored by his college alma mater Ouachita Baptist University.
Dr. Jeff Root, dean of the School of Communications tells THV that the university is naming an academic award in honor of Matt.
OBU created the Matt Turner Outstanding Junior Mass Communications student award. Root says Matt was a junior when he interned in the Little Rock TV market and that convinced him to go into broadcasting.
Root says the junior year is when students turn 21-years-old and that they begin to focus on life after college so they think the award will be a meaningful one. A small scholarship will be attached as well.
Dr. Jeff Root talks more about the scholarship with Ashley Blackstone on "THV 11 News This Morning".
