LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KTHV) -- With Valentine's Day just around the corner, many are racking their brains for unique gift ideas for that special someone.
Two local entrepreneurs are looking to transform that same old box of chocolates into a sweet and social trip around the world - every month.
"People love great candy. That's a no brainer. But oftentimes, even candy enthusiasts who actively seek quality confections usually only find the larger, more commercial brands. Plus, despite having desirable products, many candy businesses struggle with the low margins of a brick and mortar-only operation. Even those who have a web presence rarely have the time to market the company to its fullest potential," said Co-Founder Keith Hoelzeman.
"That's where Treatsie comes in. Think of us as an online-dating site for those who have a love affair with chocolate. We take the exhausting search process off your hands and deliver a carefully curated box of candy from ever-changing artisans to your door for only $15 a month," said Co-Founder Jamie Walden.
But Treatsie is much more than just a monthly box of candy. It's built to be social. Rather than sending a printed card describing the treats, the company will post all the info about each month's candies on their website and apps. Not only does this allow subscribers to connect, share and discuss with other Treatsie members, but each candy includes a bio about the company that made it and a link to buy more.
"A major part of our mission is to encourage the growth of small candy businesses. Because Treatsie is web-based, we'll provide a way for small mom-and-pop candy shops to tap into a nationwide network of candy enthusiasts."
Treatsie is using Kickstarter this month to accept a limited number of beta members who can sign up for a number of rewards, including one-, three-, six- and 12-month subscriptions, in exchange for contributing to the launch of the project.
