Wal-Mart kicks off online holiday shopping deals
Put away the pumpkins and bring out the stockings. Wal-Mart declared the holiday shopping season open by kicking off a selection of online deals Friday, nearly a month ahead of its usual Thanksgiving schedule. The offers included discounts on electronics and toys usually reserved for Black Friday. A 42-inch JVC television for $300 had sold out online by 10 a.m.
Honda recalls minivans over brake issue
Honda is recalling 344,000 Odyssey minivans for a sensor issue that can cause the vehicle to brake on its own. A calibration error can cause "heavy and unexpected braking without the driver pressing on the brake pedal and without illumination of the brake lamps," the company said. Honda said the recall includes minivans from the 2007 and 2008 model years. The issue has not led to any crashes or injuries, the company said.
Look closely! Instagram showing ads on timeline now
Starting from November, Instagram has started showing adverts on the timeline of its American users. The first ad was sponsored by Michael Kors. The ads also came on Instagram on Friday. As of day 1 of November, the social channel owned by Facebook showed the first ad to its American users. The users have reported that they're seeing the new "sponsored" collection of Michal Kors, even though they don't follow the brand on the network.
Study says even if a guy texts you a lot, that doesn't mean he's in love with you
A new study published in the Journal of Couple and Relationship Therapy surveyed 276 men and women around age 22 in meaningful relationships. Among the participants, 38% were in a serious relationship, 46% were engaged and 16% were married, Time reports. Each participant agreed that they use texts to communicate with their significant others. Those who sent loving messages also reported higher satisfaction with their relationship. In this case, texting as a way of communicating loving messages or messages of relationship validation was an effective way to enhance romance.
