SHAWNEE, Okla. (CBS/KWTV) -- It's an unlikely reunion fifty years in the making. Bailey McDaniel lost his wallet in 1958 and he never thought he'd see it again. That is until recently when he and his wife got an unexpected visitor.
It was more than 50 years ago that Bailey McDaniel lost his wallet at this theater but during recent renovations staff was able to find the wallet and they returned it to him along with all the memories. McDaniel says, "I gave it to him on Christmas of '58. After I took her home, I realized my bill fold was gone. I got my flashlight and I crawled around on the floor trying to find it. I just figured, you know, it's gone forever."
A ring at the McDaniels' front door revealed a special delivery five decades later, his lost wallet. He says, "I figured I'd never see that again so it was quite a surprise, it really was. It's unbelievable that you can find something like that after 53 years and just bring back the memories."
The billfold is a time capsule taking this couple back to their high school days. He says, "Oh she was a good lookin' rascal. We were teasing and we said it was lucky there was no other girlfriends pictures in there."
From a diploma to a driver's license and even a speeding ticket paid on time of course. McDaniel says, "She was quite a basketball player and this is basically what they were doing was a story on her, she had never seen it. I'd seen it in the paper, cut it out and put it in my bill fold. This is the only picture i know of my mother when she was younger."
Those are just some of the memories the couple has from their 52-year marriage. He says, "The secret to staying together, just do what she says. He doesn't' do everything i say."
It was when the staff was doing renovations about a month ago that they found the wallet under these new seats and they were able to locate the McDaniels and return the wallet to them.
It was actually the theater owner's wife who did most of the leg work. She was able to find an address for the McDaniels and drove the wallet out to their house.
