OXFORD, U.K. (CNN)-- Quidditch, the popular sport played in the Harry Potter books, is similar to lacrosse... only it's based on magic.

Competitors fly on brooms trying to make goals and catch the "snitch," a gold ball that zips around the players.

This magical game has caught the eye of many and now has roughly 700 teams participating in the game world-wide.

One Quidditch fan says the game had to be modified for "muggles," non-magical people, in-order to play.

The game is still played on brooms only the feet stay grounded also the snitch is a neutral player who is dressed in gold with a tail attached to the uniform. The snitch is to sprint around trying not to get caught by the seeker.

A player from England says, "The Olympics are now in England and Harry Potter is from England, this is a good time and a good place to show the world this new sport."

Many hope and plan to see this game go viral and eventually become a Olympic game.
