Winners and Losers: February 24, 2014

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KTHV) - So much news, so little time. That's why we can fit it all into one little capsule, known as Winners and Losers.

Winner: The Big Red Ball Foundation. Through events like this weekend's Chili with a Kick at Dickey Stephens Park, they have raised hundreds of thousands of dollars for various charities.

Loser: The winner of the hot chili eating contest.

Loser: The unidentified unlucky horseplayer at Gulfstream Park in Florida on Saturday. They have a special pick-6 bet. The horse on the lead is about to win one lucky player $1.6 million, but the horse drifted while trying to hang on. The judges ruled that's a foul, and disqualified the horse, and cost that poor bettor a life-changing payoff.

Winner: Marquis Chaney. He was named by our local Boys and Girls club as the 2014 Arkansas Youth of the year. He got the title after meeting the challenges offered up in a special two day, problem solving convention.

Winner: Cabot Classroom 1404, where Shelley Long has her students with special needs, learning real world business lessons, by making dog treats. Dogs are eating it up and so are the kids, and so do we.

Winner: Custom Aircraft Cabinets. They started out in a Sherwood garage and now occupy a 40,000 square foot facility that cranks out masterpieces.

Winner: Russia. Right at the end of the winter games they put on a medal rush and ended up winning more medals than anyone, with the U.S. a close second. Symbolic of the Olympics themselves, where Russia worked through the last minute to get ready, and in the end they pulled it off.
