LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KTHV) -- Halloween is just around the corner, so Mark Edwards sits down with Trey Reid, Field Editor with the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission, to clear up myths about bats.

Many people associate bats with all things scary, especially this time of year. But Reid says there's really nothing to be scared of when it comes to bats.

Here are some facts about bats that you may not have known:

  • Bats are not blind.
  • They can see and locate their food by a type of radar inaudible to the human ear.
  • Bats will not get tangled in your hair. They are more interested in insects usually buzzing around your head.
  • Very few bats actually have rabies, in fact only 0.5% to 1% have rabies.
  • Bats are the only mammal that can fly.
  • Bats mate in the fall and have babies in the spring.
